Fast and Accurate Grain Quality Analysis to Improve Grain Intake Efficiency
Partner: Kaitz-Agro Kft.
Location: Somberek, Baranya County, Hungary
Instrument: Infracont XGrain grain analyser
Interviewee: Péter Baranyai, Commercial Director
“Since we have had this instrument, we have been able to test the grain in practically every single incoming truck.”
— Péter Baranyai, Kaitz-Agro Kft.
The Partner
Kaitz-Agro Kft. is a group of agricultural companies and cooperatives located on the outskirts of Somberek, Baranya County, Hungary, growing and expanding continuously since the 1990s. The farm’s main activities are arable crop production and livestock farming, and it also runs a significant grain trading division.
Kaitz-Agro in numbers
| ~1,000 ha of arable land |
12–14,000 t of grain / season |
130+ producer partners |
The Challenge
During harvest season, the Kaitz-Agro site becomes a true logistics hub: grain of varying quality and moisture content arrives from more than 100 producers. Knowing the exact compositional parameters is crucial for making the right storage decisions.
Before Infracont, the company relied on external laboratories for quality testing. This meant that results often took days to arrive, while decisions about handling the incoming grain lots had to be made without accurate data.
Main problems
- Slow results: external laboratory tests took days, delaying the classification of grain.
- Risky storage decisions: without accurate moisture and protein values, lots could not be sorted optimally.
- Congestion at intake: with shipments arriving en masse during the season, every minute counted.
The Solution: Infracont XGrain
After recommendations from partners and thorough online research, the Kaitz-Agro team chose the Infracont XGrain grain analyser. An important consideration in their choice was finding a Hungarian manufacturer they could communicate with directly and in Hungarian.
Why the XGrain?
- Instant measurement, no sample preparation: by pouring the grain into the hopper, protein, moisture, gluten and other compositional values are available within minutes.
- InfraCloud cloud service: all measurement results are automatically uploaded to the cloud, where they can be retrieved at any time, exported to Excel and used to generate reports.
- Built-in test weight module: it measures hectolitre weight and composition in a single step, with no separate measurement required.
- Hungarian manufacturing, Hungarian service: the Infracont instrument is developed and manufactured in Hungary, with full support and service backing.
Results
Since the introduction of the XGrain, Kaitz-Agro’s grain purchasing and storage processes have changed fundamentally.
| BEFORE | AFTER |
| External laboratory testing → results arrived days later | All data available on site, truck by truck, within minutes |
- Every incoming shipment can be assessed immediately - storage decisions are made based on actual compositional values.
- Grain intake has become smoother - no more waiting for external lab results; the process is now fully in-house.
- Data is stored in the cloud - it can be retrieved, exported and turned into reports to support the company’s decision-making.
- Competitive quality at a Hungarian price - according to Péter Baranyai, the XGrain holds its own against the instruments of more expensive foreign manufacturers.
The Partner’s Verdict
“When selecting the instrument, it was very important for us to find a Hungarian company as a partner, and to this day we feel that Infracont was the right choice.”
“We have an excellent partnership with the company, their service team is always available – I can’t think of anything where they wouldn’t hold their own against any foreign manufacturer.”
— Péter Baranyai, Commercial Director, Kaitz-Agro Kft.
Summary
The example of Kaitz-Agro Kft. clearly demonstrates how a medium-sized Hungarian farm can use modern NIR technology to make grain purchasing and storage more efficient. The Infracont XGrain is not just an instrument but a complete system: the analyser, the cloud-based data management and the Hungarian service background together ensure that grain intake is fast, accurate and well documented.
